Day One

Well here I am, a little hung over but still game.

My son Benny went trick-or-treating with his friend Quinn, as Quinn's parents and I followed with plastic cups of red wine.

We ranged freely about our San Francisco neighborhood, stopping at open businesses as well as houses. By the end, Benny the Ninja was lugging an overflowing pumpkin pail in one hand and a stick of cotton candy in the other. To celebrate the haul, Quinn's parents and I opened another bottle at their house.

Now I've thrown my husband and son out of the house and I'm ready. My head aches a little and the temperature in our apartment is 79 degrees (November heat waves are truly unnatural). But I've got determination — and a nearly endless supply of Cheezits and Coke. Good luck everyone!
